TEAM SELECTION

  1. Players in Grades 3 and 4 are typically placed on a team based on Grade / School / Area / Geography.

  2. Players in Grades 5 to 12 MUST ATTEND an Evaluation Night (to be held the week of Sept 30). Players are selected to teams in a draft format in an effort to create balanced teams.

Players will practice / play somewhere within the Kelowna / West Kelowna area.

All players MUST attend their scheduled Evaluation Night:  If player is sick or out of town please contact Kevin Bos at kbos@suncityphysiotherapy.com for the boys or Nolan Belanger at kelownaminorbasketball@gmail.com for the girls. If players are registered but miss the Evaluation Night they will still be placed on a team.

Each player is expected to provide their own basketball, gym strip and indoor running shoes for Evaluations.

PLAY-UPS

We will allow up to 12 players per team. The first criteria for allowing play ups is, there must be room in the higher division.

Alternately, if a higher division team is not full, remaining play ups won't be used to fill the spots unless they are truly capable. This decision is made by the majority of coaches present on each evaluation night.

Coaches with their own kids in a play up situation can create difficulty for conveners to confirm their coaching list. The coach should communicate this with the convener of both divisions before evaluations.

All players requesting to be considered to play up (1 division only is allowed), MUST show up at the Evaluation of the higher division, or they will not be approved to play up. If you are not approved you will also have to attend your own grade/division Evaluation Night.

KELOWNA MINOR BASKETBALL GENERAL  INFORMATION

Withdraw Rules: For Grades 5 to 12

People who wish to withdraw prior to the start of Evaluation Night can do so with a 100% refund (less $10.00 admin fee). Should a player withdraw after the evaluation nights, the total cost will be $50. NO REFUND after First game. There will also be a $25 late registration fee for any player who registers after the evaluation nights. Due to the Active LeagueOne registration costs a $10.00 fee will not be refunded.

Players are expected to be at practice in order for their team to improve. Unwarranted absences from practice may be subject to a reduction in play time. Coaches expect prior notification of missed practices.

All players must conform to expected guidelines concerning behaviour as displayed on our website (Players Code of Conduct) -  www.kelownamba.com

Parents will abide by the KMBA (Parent Code of Conduct and Zero Tolerance Policy), both as displayed on our website.

The KMBA reserves the right to release any player or coach from the KMBA.

We expect players, coaches, and parents to refrain from any form of criticism directed toward officials, coaches or other players. A positive approach to all circumstances is the example we want to set in our league.

*** TRAVEL TO PRACTICE LOCATIONS ***

We try our best to not ask parents to travel long distances to practice locations each week. We make allowances for extreme travel distance. We do however utilize West Side Gyms and do not consider traveling across the bridge from Kelowna as extreme travel.

Players will not know when / where their practice night / location / time will be until the coach of their assigned team contacts them to confirm. Our goal is to have all coaches in place and all players assigned to teams by no later than October 4th.
